Careers education is an integral part of our ASPIRE programme and is planned for progression from year 7 all the way through to year 13. Students are given chance to reflect own their own skills, abilities and talents and explore how these can contribute to developing a fulfilling career plan. It is vital that students are aware of the many different options available to them at all stages of their education and beyond and so we ensure that they have access to independent advice to help them make informed decisions. Events such as our annual careers fair and mock interviews help to enrich students’ experience and prepare them for their next steps.

This is an overview of what is covered by each year group

Year Group	Knowledge and Skills Covered
7	Evaluating own Personal Learning and Thinking skills and identifying how they link to different careers.
8	Exploring careers that they might be interested in and how these fit into their aspirations for the future Looking at the pathways process, understanding the range and types of courses that are available for them as well as the paths that they may lead post 16 Individual interview with a Progress leader regarding the most suitable pathway choices Talking to staff about the most suitable KS4 courses
9	Exploring key employability skills and how they relate to a range of professions Learning about the benefits and drawback of part time jobs and the law surrounding young people in employment
10	Further exploration of Careers , the local labour market, the world of work and how post 16 options link with this. Careers Fair where they meet a variety of employers, apprenticeships, universities and colleges Work Experience week and reflection
11	CVs, interview techniques, applying for jobs. Post 16 Options Research into careers and the local labour market Mock Interviews Individual meeting with a Progress Leader about post 16 choices
KS5	Visits to local universities Talks from the National apprenticeship service 1 to 1 meeting regarding post 18 options ASDAN certificate in Personal Effectiveness – all careers focused units UCAS workshops Year 12 work experience week Workshops on CVs and interviews
